A Safari-Inspired Nursery Design: A Touch of South Africa in the USA

Recently, we had the joy of designing a bespoke nursery for a baby boy whose family lives in the USA. With Dad proudly South African and deeply connected to the bush, their wish was simple yet meaningful: to create a nursery inspired by South Africa’s natural beauty and their shared love of the wild.
Nature-Inspired Nursery Design with African Charm
We began with the feature wall, wallpapered in soft grey and white tones. The design - delicately illustrated with leopards, monkeys, and bushveld trees - captures the gentle spirit of the African wilderness. It’s playful enough for a baby’s room yet timeless enough to grow with him, balancing whimsy and sophistication.
To bring warmth and comfort, we introduced a creamy, textured rocking chair, creating the perfect corner for quiet cuddles and midnight feeds. This piece grounds the space and adds a calm, nurturing energy that complements the natural theme.
Details that Bring the Nursery to Life
One of our favourite elements is the tall giraffe decor piece standing proudly beside the cot - a subtle nod to the African landscape and a symbol of watchful guardianship. It adds personality and charm, making the space feel both joyful and comforting.
We finished the look with a hand-knitted grey blanket, lovingly draped over the cot. The soft texture and neutral palette complete the space beautifully, adding a layer of warmth and sentiment.
